A fantastic break in London, lovely hotel with friendly attentive staff a comfy bed with a good night`s sleep and a decent breakfast. We booked a rail and hotel combination it was quick and easy and perfect for us. I would highly recommend using Hotel Direct and I would like to thank everyone for a great weekend. Loved it !!

St Helier is the biggest town on Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, and has a long and interesting history which is believed to stretch back to the Roman Empires occupation of Gaul. The name comes from the 6th century hermit who was martyred in 555 AD, and to this day The Hermitage lies in the bay off St Helier and is accessible on foot at low tide. In 1995 the town celebrated the 50 year anniversary of the liberation of the island from the Nazi occupation with a sculpture in what is now known as Liberation Square. A popular attraction for both locals and visitors alike is the Central Market on Beresford Street, opened in 1882 it features Victorian architecture and stalls selling flowers, fruit and vegetables. Other sites worth a visit include Mont Orgueil Castle which has been defending the town for 600 years and the Jersey War Tunnels which tell the story of the German occupation during the Second World War. Those of a more active nature may wish to enjoy some of the many activities available, such as rock climbing, windsurfing or kayaking.
